License Terms
This page outlines the licensing terms that apply to Vantage Design products. Our products are digital assets, including design systems, documentation themes, and page templates. The license you purchase determines how you can use, modify, and distribute the product. Read this page carefully before purchasing to ensure the license type matches your intended use.
All Vantage Design products are licensed, not sold. When you purchase a product, you receive a license granting specific usage rights. Ownership of the underlying intellectual property remains with Vantage Design. The license is non exclusive, meaning we may sell the same product to other customers under the same or different license terms.
We offer multiple license tiers to accommodate different use cases. The right license depends on the number of people who will work with the product files, the number of projects the product will be used in, and whether the end product will be distributed to others.
Who this is for
The personal license is designed for individual developers, designers, and freelancers who will use the product in their own projects. This is the most common license tier and covers the majority of individual use cases.
What is permitted
- Use the product in a single project at a time. A project is defined as a single website, web application, or digital product with a distinct purpose and audience.
- Modify the product files to fit your project requirements. You may customize colors, typography, spacing, layout, and any other configurable aspect of the product.
- Use the product in a personal or commercial project. Whether you are building something for yourself or for a client, the personal license covers it as long as you are the sole developer working with the product files.
- Deploy the finished project publicly. The license covers production use. You do not need a separate deployment license.
What is not permitted
- Sharing the product files with other developers, designers, or team members. If multiple people need access to the product files, a team license is required.
- Using the product in multiple concurrent projects without purchasing additional licenses.
- Redistributing the product as a standalone item, whether for free or for sale. You may not repackage the product as a template, theme, design system, or component library and offer it to others.
- Sublicensing the product to third parties.
Who this is for
The team license is designed for small to medium sized teams where multiple people need to access and work with the product files. If two or more developers, designers, or contributors will be modifying, extending, or integrating the product, this is the appropriate license.
What is permitted
- Share the product files with members of your team. The team license covers a defined number of seats, specified at the time of purchase.
- Use the product across multiple projects within your organization. The team license is not limited to a single project, making it suitable for teams that maintain multiple properties.
- Modify and extend the product to fit your organization's requirements. You may build custom components, adjust token values, restructure documentation, and customize layouts to match your brand and workflow.
- Deploy finished projects publicly. Production deployment is covered for all projects using the product under this license.
- Store the product files in your organization's private repositories. The license covers version control access for licensed team members.
What is not permitted
- Sharing the product files beyond the licensed number of seats. If your team grows beyond the licensed seat count, contact us to upgrade.
- Redistributing the product as a standalone item, whether internally to unlicensed teams or externally to third parties.
- Using the product files in a product or service that competes directly with the original product. You may not use a design system product to create and sell your own design system, or a documentation theme to create and sell your own documentation theme product.
- Sublicensing the product to contractors, agencies, or other third parties working outside your core team.
Who this is for
The extended license covers use cases that go beyond personal or team use. This includes incorporating product assets into a product that will be distributed to end users, using the product as a foundation for a SaaS application, or any scenario where the product becomes part of a distributable offering.
What is permitted
- Everything included in the team license.
- Incorporate the product into a distributable end product. If you are building a SaaS platform, a hosted service, or a downloadable application that includes our product as part of its interface, the extended license covers that use.
- Use the product across an unlimited number of projects within your organization.
What is not permitted
- Redistributing the product as a standalone item, even under the extended license. The product must be integrated into a larger work and not offered as a separate downloadable asset.
- Claiming authorship of the product. Attribution requirements vary by product and are specified in the product documentation.
Modifications and derivative works
All license tiers permit modification of the product files for your own use. You may change colors, restructure layouts, add components, remove components, and adapt the product to your project requirements. Modifications do not transfer any ownership rights to you. The original product and any derivative works based on it remain subject to these license terms.
Updates
License purchases include access to product updates for the period specified at the time of purchase. Updates may include bug fixes, compatibility improvements, new components, and documentation enhancements. After the update period expires, you may continue to use the product version you have but will not receive further updates without renewing.
Support
Product support is available to licensed users. Support covers questions about product usage, configuration, and integration. It does not cover custom development, project specific implementation, or third party tool troubleshooting. Support availability and response times may vary by license tier.
Termination
We reserve the right to terminate a license if these terms are violated. In the event of termination, you must cease using the product and delete all copies of the product files. Termination does not entitle you to a refund. If you believe a termination was made in error, contact us and we will review the situation.
Transferability
Licenses are not transferable without our written permission. You may not sell, assign, or transfer your license to another individual or organization. If your organization undergoes a change of ownership, contact us to discuss license continuity.
Design systems
Design system products include component source code, design tokens, layout primitives, and documentation. The license covers all files included in the product package. You may extend the design system with custom components. Custom components you create are yours and are not subject to these license terms. The original product files remain licensed.
Documentation themes
Documentation theme products include theme files, configuration structures, shortcode implementations, and example content. The license covers the theme itself. Content you create using the theme is yours. The theme structure, styling, and functionality remain licensed.
Page templates
Page template products include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and associated assets such as placeholder images and icons. The license covers the template structure and code. Content you add to the template is yours. Placeholder content included with the template is licensed and should be replaced with your own content before deployment.
Can I use a product for a client project?
Yes. Both personal and team licenses allow use in client projects. The distinction is whether you alone are working with the product files (personal license) or whether multiple people on your team are accessing them (team license). The end project can be delivered to a client.
Do I need a new license for each project?
Under the personal license, each concurrent project requires its own license. Under the team license, you may use the product across multiple projects within your organization. If you complete a project and move on, you may reuse a personal license on a new project as long as only one project is active at a time.
Can I use the product in an open source project?
You may use the product to build an open source project, but you may not include the product files themselves in the open source repository. The product must remain private. The output of using the product, such as a compiled website or application, can be distributed according to the open source project's license.
What happens if I need more seats?
Contact us to upgrade your team license. We offer flexible seat additions without requiring a full new license purchase. Pricing for additional seats is prorated based on the original purchase.
If you have questions about licensing that are not covered here, or if you need a custom licensing arrangement, contact us at hello@vantage-design.com. We are straightforward about licensing and happy to clarify any terms.
